Introduction

The Council has a role in ensuring the safety, health and welfare of persons and animals within East Herts.

This is done through the provision of licences to premises or persons, required by statute, for certain activities for which the Council is the licensing authority.

Where appropriate we investigate complaints concerning licensed premises, activities and practices. We also provide education, advice and information on matters relating to licensing.

Licences issued by Community Protection include:

• Provision of Entertainment and the Sale of Alcohol or Hot Food
• Temporary Event Notices (TEN)
• Gaming Act 1968
• Charitable collections (House to House Collections and Street Collections )
• Sex establishments 
• Small Lotteries (raffles)
• Taxi Licensing (vehicles, drivers and operators)
• Gambling

Licences/ registrations issued by the Environmental Health Service include:

• Skin Piercing - including Tattooist,  body and ear piercing, electrolysis and acupuncture
•  Advice and Regulations with regard to Skin Piercing  Skin Piercers (Premises) [20kb]  Skin Piercers (Personal) [104kb]

• Animal Boarding Establishments
• Butchers are now subject to the new EC hygiene regulations that apply to other catering businesses.
